I have a soft spot for the Imperial Palace Casino (IP). It was a place that a buddy of mine and I always used to stay at during our first trips out to Vegas. The rooms are cheap and the place stinks of cigarettes, but you never forget your first Vegas love. Gambling at the Imperial Palace $5 table heaven right in the middle of the strip. The casino floor is not that large and lately they seem to be pushing gimmicky games a bit too much, but its a fun place to play if you are looking to some friendly (read cheap) action. The dealers are so so, you get as many silent machines as you get good ones. One thing I like about the IP is that it is a good place to take over a table with your buddies. While it gets busy at peak hours, other times you should have no problem getting a blackjack table for you and 5 friends. In addition to $5 blackjack, you can also find $5 craps in full supply here. A final note is that I love the cocktail waitress uniforms here. Good stuff. They have a little sports book upstairs that gets the job done, and a kick ass quarters horse racing game so head on up. Ambience and Grounds The IP had to have taken its inspiration from 1970's Hong Kong. The place feels like an old Kung Fu movie, and that works for me. Classier people might not dig it, but hey we all make our own choices in life. Rooms are cheap and uninspiring, but you are not in Vegas to sleep, are you? The food is nothing special here, but you get choices and its affordable. Plenty of divey lounges surround the casino floor and there is a cheesy club in front of the casino for you party people. While nothing on its own is special, the entire package comes together with its own special charm. Everything in the IP belongs in it, if that makes sense. Spend a drunken night gambling in here and you'll see what I mean.
