Mandalay Bay

Paris

Mandalay Bay is as close to a complete casino/resort as I have found in Vegas. This place has a lot going for it. Want sharks? They got it. Want gambling? They got it. Want a nice pool? They got it. Want nightlife? You get the idea...

Gambling at Mandalay Bay

Quiet but solid. I enjoy playing at Mandalay Bay even though the limits at night are $25 and that I do better elsewhere. It does not attract the friendlist people in town, but they are solid citizens and will humor a table talker like me. I like playing there because Mandalay Bay does just about everything right, and because I really enjoy every other aspect of the casino so a lot of my play here is true convenience.

I am a big fan of their sports book. There is lots of action, plenty of good seating, and huge screens showing all the games. I also like their food and the bar by the book too. A lot of times I will make this my first stop on the drive out for a beer and a quick bet or two. While the Bellagio is the nicest sports book, this one is the most social and lively.

The Hotel at Mandalay Bay

Somethings in life are worth paying for. The Hotel at Mandalay Bay is one of them. Outside of the weird black marble, permanent midnight lighting vibe, everything at The Hotel is awesome. Plasma screens in the bedroom, in the living room, in the shower! A decent in room bar. Crazy nice bathrooms (I am sure crazy nice is what the designer was shooting for). Three of us went there mid-week in the low season and got a suite for maybe $180 a night.

Mandalay Bay Grounds

Mandalay Bay has a great wave pool, a fun lazy river to cruise around, and a whole bunch of hot tubs to soak in. Really nice setup for their pool area, but it does get crowded and finding seating was a pain even during the dead season.

I wish I could tell you about the shark tank, but security intercepted us trying to get in at 3 A.M. and I have not been back.

Food, bars, and clubs abound the complex. Rum Jungle is fun if you are in a big club mood. There is a Russian vodka bar if you want to get blotto on ultra premium vodka. Plenty of other good spots too whose names elude me. I give high marks to just about everything I have eaten while at the Mandalay, so can vouch for eating there on the whole.

Cons of Mandalay Bay

Since everything above is a pro for Mandalay, time to let you in on the cons. The biggest one is distance. You have to cab to everything that is not the Luxor and Excalibur, or else your feet will kill you at the end of the day. The other con for me is $$. Make sure you bring your bankroll to the Mandalay. Pricey but worth it.
